Pulp-shaped tableware uses herbal pulps such as reeds and bagasse as the main raw materials, with about 30% wood pulp (or no wood pulp added) and some waterproof and oil-proof additives. A molding machine is used to produce a preliminary blank in a mold of a certain shape, and then the processes such as heating, drying, and calendering are performed.
Throughout the world, pulp mold products are generally used for industrial product packaging, such as shock-proof brackets for instrument products. The research and development of pulp molded tableware in my country began in the early 1990s, and gradually solved the problems of strength, oil resistance, waterproof, heat resistance, sterilization, and tastelessness. The products of some paper support factories have been recognized by the railway department and promoted on trains on major railway lines. Therefore, pulp molded tableware has become the product with the largest production capacity and number of manufacturers among foam tableware alternatives. Currently, there are nearly 60 paper support factories in China with an annual production capacity of 5 billion yuan.
Advantage:
The production process is relatively simple, the factory cycle is short, and it is easy to promote. This product has good thermal insulation effect and can be made into various shapes. Discarded tableware can be recycled or degraded by itself.
defect:
1. The previous papermaking process caused serious environmental pollution. In the later stages of production, the quality control and quality standards of oil-proof and waterproof additives are relatively strict, otherwise quality problems such as excessive dissolved matter may easily occur. The compliance rate is only 30%.
2. The investment cost of disposable equipment is relatively high (annual production of 30 million lunch boxes requires an investment of more than 3 million yuan), and most of them are intermittent production.
3. The economic benefits of recycling need to be confirmed. Due to the addition of oil-proof and waterproof additives during the production process, discarded lunch boxes usually leave a small amount of leftover food and oil stains. Although paper mills can theoretically recycle, some mills still need to invest in new equipment. Moreover, since this type of tableware is mainly made of straw pulp fiber and can only be used as low-grade paper products after recycling, it remains to be demonstrated whether economic benefits will drive recycling.
4. The degradation characteristics are not outstanding. Inspection results from relevant departments confirmed that it takes more than 5 months for paper tableware to remove sensory contamination.
5. It is not easy to store for a long time and is prone to mold in high temperature and humid environment.
6. Some products have insufficient hardness and are easily deformed.
7. Most sticky rice is serious.
Final evaluation: As the fastest growing alternative to disposable tableware in recent years, pulp molded tableware has occupied a certain market in various places, but there seem to be many problems. Under the guidance of publicity, many provinces and cities across the country have successively launched pulp molded tableware production lines, and places such as Luodian in Guizhou, Leshan in Sichuan, Shiyan in Hubei, and Anhua in Hunan have also adopted it as a poverty alleviation project. However, as the increase in production capacity is not proportional to the demand in the tableware market, supply exceeds demand. In order to survive, companies compete to cut prices and pass off inferior products as good ones (reducing the proportion of wood pulp or using straw pulp instead of wood pulp, not rinsing with oil repellent when expired, or adding less waterproof and oil repellent, etc.) frequently occur. Therefore, while the pulp molding industry is actively expanding its market, it must also actively face its own problems and come up with solutions. The most important thing at present is to ensure stable product quality and effectively solve recycling problems without increasing costs.
