How to choose a suitable mold for producing blister trays?

 

Which mold material is more suitable for the blister pallet? This needs to be judged according to several situations. If it is the customer's first proofing, you can choose a cheap plaster mold or a wooden mold. If it is mass production, you must not use the above mold because it cannot be processed. It will be damaged after a few times. We recommend using copper molds or aluminum films. Copper molds are moderately priced and suitable for mass production of large quantities of goods. Aluminum films are more precise and high-end products are available.

 

The cost, production cycle and application scope of these types of blister molds are very different:

 

1. Plaster mold. The material is gypsum powder, which is easy to make and modify. Generally, a single mold only takes 1-3 days and the cost is low. Because it is relatively brittle and difficult to dissipate heat, plaster molds are generally used to make prototypes manually when there are samples and are not used for production.

 

2. Substitute wooden mold. The material is substitute wood, the material cost is high, it requires CNC processing, the production cycle is short, usually a few hours, and it is easy to polish and drill holes. The material is also relatively brittle, so it is most suitable for proofing with 3D drawings, not for production.

 

3. Bakelite mold. The material is bakelite, which costs about 20 yuan per kilogram and requires CNC processing. The production cycle is slightly longer than that of substitute wood, and polishing and drilling are more difficult than that of substitute wood. The material has a certain strength and is suitable for proofing and small batch production when 3D drawings are available.

 

4. Copper mold. The copper mold first needs to be made from a plaster mold, and then the sample is plated with copper and filled with gypsum inside. The material cost and production cost are medium. Including the time to make the plaster mold, the production cycle of the full-page mold generally takes 7-10 days. The copper mold has a good surface finish and its strength can meet general production requirements. It is one of the widely used blister molds.

 

5. Aluminum mold. The material cost and production cost are relatively high, about 5-10 times that of the copper mold. Generally, the full-page mold production cycle is about 5-10 days. Due to the use of CNC processing, the consistency of the cavity is better, and the surface can be polished or sprayed with Teflon to obtain ideal surface finish and good demoulding effect, which is a guarantee for the production of high-quality blister products; heat dissipation of aluminum It is fast, and if necessary, the mold temperature can be controlled through the circulating water cooling system, so the molding efficiency is high; aluminum has good strength and can make complex cavities and thin walls, making it a must-have for complex products. Therefore, aluminum molds are suitable for mass production, high product requirements, complex product cavities or high reinforcement ribs. Although the cost is higher, due to the high production efficiency, if the product batch reaches a certain quantity, the labor and electricity saved will far exceed the cost of the mold!
